Appointment And Joint Collaboration Statement Cape Town, 04 February 2011
We are delighted today to announce that Top 100 SA Wines has appointed Cheviot Publishing as our publishing partner.
Cheviot Publishing is an independent, wine related book publisher. They enjoy an enviable reputation for hands-on, high quality, and dedicated project management. Their aim is to deliver agreed results to their clients on time and on budget.
Top 100 SA Wines is an innovative and dynamic fine-wine brand that aims to ‘de-myth the bunk’ for fine-wine consumers. Its world-class Master of Wine-led panel will soon objectively and accurately identify the top 100 SA wines, in order to enhance consumer choice and simplify purchasing of our country’s great wines. This long-needed initiative will be an annual feature on the SA calendar.
Providing fine-wine consumer access to relevant information that is practical, objective and easy to understand is a common goal shared by both companies. More importantly consumers worldwide now demand this approach. Consumers will be given easily referenced information on SA’s top wines in a simple, affordable annual guide, thus aiding and encouraging their confident purchases.
Both of our brands share a similar and exciting market lead approach. Our respective skills and knowledge will now be combined to produce the ideal solution – 2011 Top 100 SA Wines Consumer Guide.
A number of public and private tastings and related opportunities will be presented nationally. The 2011 Top 100 SA Wines Consumer Guide will be available from late April 2011.

Q & A update 04 February 2011 (also posted on our website – Enter Wines – Q & A)
Q - We like the idea of selling the book and recouping entry costs; it’s a smart approach for all parties. Our concern is that we have a tasting room and we are a well-known winery, but we really are off the beaten track and don’t get much traffic. Can you be flexible in book numbers at all? A - Our aim is to be a good partner to vineyards and to the industry. We will be happy to hear your story and to demonstrate respect for individual winery’s circumstances. Where deserving, we will be prepared to agree a lesser number of allocated books. We will remain in contact to assess efforts and sales success. Clearly it is in all winners interests that we pull together, and achieve maximum collective sales to loyal consumers. The book is, after all, very attractively priced.
Q - You have stated that you intend to hold a wine festival for discerning public in Stellenbosch and other locations. Do you have venue plans finalised? A - We are always keen to put back and reinvest as much as possible into our community. Please express your interest if you believe you have a suitable venue. It will need to accommodate a minimum of 250 people and probably more, and have adequate canapé catering facilities and possibly restaurant seating for 50+. It needs to be a stunning setting that will link positively to the Top 100 SA Wine brand.
Q - Will you sell wines other than Top 100 SA Wine winners? For example other wines made from winning vineyards, or simply other wines in general? A - We are not planning at this stage to be a wine retailer ‘across the board’. The Top 100 SA Wines are our primary interest and our commitment is to these winning wines. There will be a number of innovations taking place over coming months that we will share with you.
Q - Can we submit unlabelled wine? A - You are welcome to submit unlabelled wines. Please make sure that they are easily identifiable with securely stuck on white labels. It is imperative that we have hi-res jpeg image of the finished label by close of entries on Friday 18th March 2011. The consumer guide that we are producing is high quality and winning wines labels will be portrayed accurately and in great clarity.
Q - I produce a small amount of two very fine wines, 1400 bottles each to be precise. I am keen to enter one of them in the Top 100 SA Wine Challenge. Is my limited production an obstacle? A - There is no minimum number of bottles required to enter your wines. As long as you have 360 bottles available for sale in mid April 2010, there are no other volume criteria.
Q - I have approximately 10 000 bottles of our Bordeaux blend from 2003. I have been keeping them back for something special and Top 100 SA Wines appears to be just that. Given that we have just released our 2008 vintage, can I rather submit my 2003 to the Challenge? A - Yes you may enter your 2003 vintage wine. The only criteria is that there has to be 360 bottles available to the public in mid April 2011.
